In Memory: Kenneth W. Smallwood (1935-2002)

Kenneth W. Smallwood, 66, died Jan. 25, 2002, at Hospice Residential Care Center, Hutchinson.

He was born Sept. 9, 1935, at Amber, Okla., the son of Elmer and Lillie Fisk Boles. A longtime Hutchinson resident, moving from Chickasha, Okla. He graduated from Friend High School, Chickasha, Okla., in 1954, served a four-year apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Railroad, was employed by the Rock Island railroad for 21 years and was later lead carman for the Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1992. He was also employed part time with St. Francis Academy, Hutchinson, as a driver. He served in the Kansas National Guard for 12 years. He was a local area muscian for many years, and was currently the Bass Guitar player and Singer for the Marlboro Country Band.

He belonged to the Southern Pacific Railroad Local Union.

On Sept. 8, 1967, he married Vickie L. Keffer at Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Trever W. Smallwood, Hutchinson, and Guylyn Nasello, Pea Ridge, Ark.; two daughters, Amber Skinner, Hutchinson, and Trina Kennedy, Pea Ridge, Ark.; two sisters, Jody Free, Crescent, Nev., and Margie Hammons, Pea Ridge, Ark.; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Humprey; and his parents.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Pastor Eldon Smith and Eulogist Darlene Teter presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to St. Francis Academy of Hutchinson, in care of the mortuary.

Kenny will be greatly missed.
